These 5 Simple Things are Keeping You Overweight

Losing weight can be quite difficult for some people. It seems that no matter how hard they follow a dedicated routine, eat right, and get plenty of sleep each night, they still don’t lose weight. So what’s keeping you overweight? It may be caused by something that you are doing, or in some cases, doing too much of. Here are the 5 simple reasons you can’t seem to lose fat..

  1. You’re Not Getting Enough Sleep

You know that your body needs sleep. The old adage is that you have to sleep 8 hours per night. If you’re having trouble sleeping, you may benefit from supplements like melatonin or ZMA. Seeing as sleep is when your body performs all of its’ maintenance and repair, treat it with some urgency and go to bed on time. Those memes of cats will be there tomorrow.

  1. Same Old Routine

You already know that consistency is key to getting fit, but now may be the time to differentiate consistency and monotony. It takes the average person about 4-6 weeks to adjust to their routine and plateau. If you’re that person that has been doing the same routine for months on end, you’ve stopped making progress, change it up. If you’re in a bodybuilding phase, try building strength. Are you that person that trots around on the treadmill for a straight hour? Try doing some HIIT training for a while.

  1. You’re Over Doing it

You have probably heard of the term overtraining. Often it is a term that some hide behind in order to warrant taking breaks that they don’t deserve. This doesn’t mean that it isn’t a real condition. If you’re lethargic, gaining fat, have an inconsistent appetite, or are achy all the time, you’re probably over training. Avoid this by programming in deload weeks every 3rd or 4th week to avoid overtraining. A deload is when you will purposely lift about 50% less weight, volume, or combination of both. If you’re currently suffering from it, take a couple weeks off. Get sleep, eat lean healthy meals, drink plenty of water, and stretch. You should feel 100% better in no time.

  1. You’re Eating Habits Are Terrible

Don’t expect to lose weight if you keep gaining junk inventory. Make sure that your meals are both balanced and portion controlled. If your goal is to lose weight, the last thing you should be doing is drinking alcohol and eating junk on a regular basis. Most gym goers admit to eating “bad” foods daily.

  1. You Think Too Much

Getting in shape is a process that should be empowering. The sad fact is that for many, it can be a stressful process. You become obsessed with reaching your goals and cause yourself a lot of trouble. Stress increases the presence of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol can slow down or even completely stop fat loss. This is counterproductive to your goal.  So, relax, sit down and come up with a plan, stick with the plan, trust that the plan will work and adjust as needed.

 

How many were you guilty of? If it’s more than one then you have some work to do. Make the changes you need to in order to see that number on the scale go down. Don’t worry too much about it though, after all, worry is one of the 5 reasons you’re still fat.
